Pukerua Bay's Matariki Celebration is back for 2025!
Gold coin koha entry, rain or shine.
Nau mai, hoki mai.
Join us for this year's local Matariki Celebration. Once again, we are planning family-friendly activities, yummy kai and the starry night walk.
This year’s kaupapa is Tupuārangi, the star from the Matariki cluster which is connected to food and growth above the ground.
E tū Tupuārangi e
Ka pōkai tara ki runga
Whatitiri ngā parirau manu
Nau mai te pua nui a Tāne
Behold Tupuārangi
A great flock of birds above
With many wings like thunder
Welcome the bounty of Tāne
The event will be an opportunity to celebrate the present and gather to give thanks for what we have.
Head along early for free face painting, kids activities including crafts and balance boarding, food trucks, crankie storytelling, and the hāngi.
Te Ara Matariki will be a guided walk starting at 5:30pm from Pukerua Bay School to Kōawa Ngaro Secret Valley and returning back to the school grounds for an evening of immersive outdoor art, kōrero, live music and dancing. Make sure to return for marshmallow roasting, biscuits and of course our famous hot chocolate!
Featuring artworks by Zoë Bell, Daniel Brown, VJ RASKAL, VJ Mr J, Manawa Mau, Alejandro Ariza Hernandez, Pukerua Bay School, Pukerua Bay Kindergarten and our community art star project contributors.
Please explore Kōawa Ngaro Secret Valley responsibly. Bring a lantern, head-lamp or torch, wrap up warm and wear sturdy footwear. Children must be supervised at all times.
